so some friends asked me to take pictures of their band last weekend. i had done this for them a couple times before but their lineup had changed and they wanted some new shots with the new guys. no problem. i had just bought a brand new Fujifilm S5 Pro and was anxious to try it out "in the field" anyhow. so i showed up to the venue about ten thirty and the door guy said they were already at capacity with half the crowd standing on tables. i told him why i was there and that i was on the band's guest list so he let me in. he wasn't kidding. i fought my way to the front and managed to change to a 17mm lens without getting beer spilled on the equipment. that's when the bassist told me only to use available light, no flash. do you have any idea what it's like trying to photograph a bunch of guys wearing black in a dark bar without flash while getting shoved around by a bunch of drunk rednecks? even with the iso cranked up to 3200 i still had to use shutter speeds of 1/30 at best. given those conditions i am pleasantly suprised with the results. suffice to say the S5 kicks the shit out of my D50 which i will shortly be selling on ebay.
